Biological Weaponry Timeline

“Active Measures”

Active measures (Russian: активные мероприятия, romanized: aktivnye meropriyatiya) is a term for the actions of political warfare conducted by the Soviet and Russian security services (Cheka, OGPU, NKVD, KGB, FSB) to influence the course of world events, in addition to collecting intelligence and producing "politically correct" assessment of it. Active measures range "from media manipulations to special actions involving various degrees of violence". Beginning in the 1920s, they were used both abroad and domestically. They included disinformation, propaganda, counterfeiting official documents, assassinations, and political repression, such as penetration into churches, and persecution of political dissidents.

Timeline

  • 1960s – the Soviet Union had numerous Bioweaponry research facilities around the area

  • 1972 – The Soviet Union signed the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) but had no real intentions of following the rules

  • 1973 – Biopreparat began. A major production to research, develop, and produce biological agents using the disguise of legitimate civil biotechnology research areas. It had 52 sites and employed over 50,000 people. Annual production capacity for weaponized rabies, smallpox, and typhus was estimated to be 90 – 100 tons.

  • 1988 – 1992 Kanatjan Alibekov is first deputy chief of Biopreparat

  • 1990 – VECTOR Institute launches manufacture of smallpox on an industrial scale

  • 1990 – 1999 – Specimens of deadly bacteria and viruses stolen from Western laboratories and smuggled in to support the Russian bio-weapons programs

  • 1991 - Scientists have been hard at work both at Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology (VECTOR) and Stepnogorsk Scientific and Technical Institute for Microbiology. Biopreparat pathogens testing has made some strides in developing the Marburg Virus and weaponizing Anthrax.

  • 1992 - Colonel Kanatzhan "Kanat" Alibekov, AKA Kenneth ‘Ken’ Alibek, first deputy director of Biopreparat, (former soviet physician, microbiologist, biological warfare expert) defects to US.

  • 1992- Sergei Popov, division head at VECTOR and Obolensk, Scientist and bioweaponeer (biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology) defects to the UK, then later the US.

  • 1992, September – Russia signs agreement with USA and UK to end its bio-weapons programs, but again fails to do so

  • 2000-2009 – A new biological warfare program called “Biological Shield of Russia” is proposed to Vladimir Putin

  • 2017 January – Yale breakthrough leads Russian scientists to make a breakthrough by mimicking the use of bacterial and virus bioengineered and spliced to Nanoparticles to transmit around the body. EBOV, Rabies lyssavirus, Marburg virus, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEE), Staphylococcal enterotoxin B, and Yersinia pestis are current areas of study and testing.

  • 2017 February - Researchers are studying viral strands that seek out proteins in specific areas of the body to test how they are drawn to certain proteins and isolate them. The hope is being able to direct Nanoparticles to specific areas and be able to connect proteins to make connections that would not normally happen.

  • 2017 March - All test subjects thus far have been recorded as failures. Pathogens are not being drawn to the correct areas of the body upon injection. Further studies into proteins are in progress, VEE has been ruled useless in this project and removed as a test subject.

  • 2017 April - Protein receptor studies are going well. Studies are now focusing on the isolation and replication of the proteins and receptors.

  •  2017 May - The first success of nanoparticles has been recorded. The base of a virus that causes pathogens to build up in the saliva glands has successfully been put into the body and appeared in the intended area. This opens a lot of possibilities and the scientists are very excited.

  •  2017 June - Russia begins using biological and chemical weaponry on smaller countries

  • 2017 September – Russia declares “Active Measures” on Chernarus.

  • -changing-  2017 December - Ken Alibek and Sergei Popov testify to the UN that they both believe attacks on other countries by Russia, seem to have Marburg Virus, Novichock, and some kind of Mustard agent as part of the ingredients. They urge extreme caution to all troops and civilians in hot zones.

  • 2018 – countries that Russia had been using bio and chemical weaponry against the year before, begin to experience severe side effects that seem to be spreading among the populace. While the original contamination was from some kind of biological weapon, it appears now that the illness is being spread via bodily fluid transfer.

  • 2018 - all attempts at immunization and protection against Russian weapons have proved failures. It is noted that Russians own troops in the warzones where the chemical is reportedly being used, seem to suffer no ill effects, leading to the belief they may have something to combat their substance, though nothing can be confirmed. Russian military appears to dump some kind of highly flammable and unknown compound on their dead, resulting in any attempts of DNA or toxicology testing being useless.

  • 2019 – Chernarus is simply trying to survive the impact of illness and Russia bearing down on it. All countries are now affected by the unknown illness.
