Amulets were tucked into the mummy's wraps—they are believed to ward off evil and bring good luck. Each type was positioned according to instructions in the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
Some of these amulets include:
Carpenter's square amulet; signified the true, or exact, character of the mummy, soon to be judged in the court of Osiris.
Djed pillar amulet; symbolized endurance and stability, important attributes for a mummy.
Heart scarab amulet; stood for transformation and rebirth.
Horus takes the form of a falcon on this amulet. A manifestation of the king, Horus means "the distant one."
Ib amulet; protected the heart.
Meretseger amulet; offered the sun god's protection.
Son of Horus, baboon, amulet; offered protection during mummification, a power symbolized by the mummy wrappings it holds.
Son of Horus, falcon, amulet; offered protection during mummification, a power symbolized by the mummy wrappings it holds.
Udjat, or Eye of Horus amulet; endowed the mummy with health, and enabled it to transform to a living being.
